Delivered | Third Horizon FD102
Customization, innovation, technology, and collaboration with knowledgeable owners are the cornerstones of the Horizon Yacht brand philosophy, a foundation upon which hundreds of pioneering yachts have been built over the last three decades.
Horizon has led the way in the design and build of high-volume fast displacement yachts that now span a range of seven models from 75 to 102 feet in length, with an FD125 in the design stages. The third and latest FD102 is equally innovative and unique in relation to her sisterships, and is bursting with owner-inspired features that set her in a class of her own.
Distinguished by a daring metallic grey hull and christened 'UNTETHERED', this FD102 features a four-stateroom layout, plus gym and full laundry facilities, including an on-deck master stateroom with a his-and-hers en-suite. Highlighted by exquisite walnut with dark wenge accents and bronze metal inlays, the interior is warm and inviting and capitalizes on the yacht’s plentiful volume and headroom.
Nowhere is the headroom more apparent than on the lower deck, where the three remaining staterooms are comfortably arranged along with a spacious laundry room adjacent to a fridge/freezer storage area. Here, the owners specified a gym and a twin bed convertible workspace, leaving two VIP staterooms available for full guest use. The crew quarters are situated aft.
More unique features are found on the bridge deck, which the owners arranged with a private wheelhouse forward and an enclosed skylounge aft. Outfitted in the style of a gentlemen’s club, the skylounge shares a day head that can be accessed from interior or exterior, the latter of which will undoubtedly see usage in any weather conditions. While the foredeck hosts a large Jacuzzi tub with plenty of seating, a refrigerator, freezer, sink, hand-held shower, and storage and can be shaded by a sun awning, the boat deck aft is most unique for a yacht of this size, in that its focal point is a large built-in firepit entertaining a large L-shaped settee. The owners plan to tow their 33ft Valhalla, and so have placed a dining area shaded by an electric awning when desired furthest aft on this deck. This deck and the wheelhouse itself was constructed in carbon fiber by Atech Composites, a subsidiary of Horizon Yachts, to keep the center of gravity low.
'UNTETHERED' is bursting with customizations and upgrades, which the proud owner was pleased to point out. “Considering I introduced and added 86 changes to the build, it is a testament that Horizon can ‘walk the talk’ of a semi-custom builder,” he said. “Whoever heard of a builder letting the customer send their own decking, stained ‘just so’, to a yard, or a builder willing to install new sophisticated machinery like a water-cooled Magnus frequency converter power system, or custom Tilse heated helm windows from Germany to name but a few."
“I did get a little pushback on the fire pit on the boat deck,” he laughs, “but come this summer on a brisk night in Maine my wife and I will be toasting all those back at the factory who made the process of specifying and building the boat of our desires an enjoyable journey.”
